Pan-Am Referees and Umpires: The Tournament Architects
PABC Technical Committee Chair, Jean-Guy Poitras, the cool Quebec resident, set up a Pan-Am COC contact list covering Certificated and Accredited IBF, Pan-Am and National level umpires and referees. The list includes their emails, country of origin and status.
When asked for his comments Jean Guy said, " The Pan-Am COC is a close knit team. We have got good rapport. You should see how we celebrate after each major event. I sure miss those times. I have the responsibility to tighten up loose ends and soon we will place more details on the web. With the magazine and e-news we will highlight identified COC team members from time to time. So, my dear colleagues please check the information on the web. If find your email is incorrect or missing, please contact me directly at jgpoitras@umce.ca We will rectify it quickly. Lets keep up the good job. The COC will have initial challenges to run events using the new scoring system. But I am confident our team will adjust rapidly. We did a great job at the Pan-Am Thomas-Uber Cup Qualifiers in Lima."
The COC are a unique set of people. Many times, the media and public do not give them much credit or notice. Yet, they are always there to help run a tournament. They are definitely an intrinsically motivated lot.
IBF Event Committee Chair and PABC Technical Committee Advisor, Paisan said, "The Pan-Am COC is like a big multi-cultural family. People see us as a serious group during a competition. Sometimes people wonder what we discuss at the late night "technical meetings” during the competition. We always have a big do at the end of the competition. We are entertained by jokes, funny stories, music , technical discussions, and not to say some "nice food and beverage". This is the international COC comradeship culture that I always encourage because happy umpires and referees means a great, smooth competition. Jean Guy, an old buddy of mine is all gung ho about his task. He is a great team man. I am confident he will do a great job with the Pan-Am team"
Pan-Am's COC is set to move on to better standards and performance. Within Pan-Am COC there is a unique set up. The Pan-Am COC includes the IBF Chair of Events - Paisan Rangsikitpho, Jean Guy - IBF IBF Assessment Panel member, and umpires and referees who can cover four major languages - English, Spanish, French and Portuguese. Pan-Am COC is also well supported from time to time by PABC Chief Operating Officer, Bob Cook who himself is well acquainted with the business of match control and tournament organization and not to mention tournament software management. Pan-Am COC is set to move smoothly into a new era.
